A superb Mahogany Bureau Cabinet made using striking fiddleback veneers. Fitted throughout with rare architectural features and made in three parts, having a splendid palladian pediment with dental cornice to the top. The cabinet interior below fitted with pigeonholes, drawers and central concave door with carved giltwood shell, the fall front interior with shaped freeze and drawers with further central door flanked with pilasters having gilt brass capitals and base. The ogee bracket feet are original, the handles old replacements.
It is interesting to see the old paper labels attached above the pigeonholes which suggests that the estate affairs were managed from this desk.
A fine piece of English country house furniture. Circa 1755.
