A beautiful and rare 18th Century Mahogany Spider Table, possibly from the workshop of Thomas Chippendale. In wonderful original condition, retaining all six original hinges. The top opens perfectly and the three superbly figured boards have remained remarkably flat over the years and developed a wonderful faded colour.
It is such a well drawn piece having elegant turned legs and well shaped pad feet.
This style of Table was reproduced heavily in the late 19th Century, however as with most reproductions the quality and the timbers used were often inferior to that of 18th Century examples.
A fine piece of English Country House Furniture, Circa 1760.
An Image of a Table of this design made by Thomas Chippendale can be seen in Christopher Gilbert''s book, The Life And Work Of Thomas Chippendale.
An almost identical example made by Thomas Chippendale sold at Sotheby''s from the family collection of the late Countess Mountbatten of Burma. Lot 252, 24 March 2021.
